Wet Weather Conditions Can Cause Automobiles To Hydroplane
The state of Florida has the best of both worlds when it comes to weather; sunshine on good days and heavy rain on other days. Wet weather conditions can cause automobiles to hydroplane, skid, and can cause minor or major car accidents. The first five minutes of rain are considered to be the most dangerous time to drive due to the oil and fluid residue from vehicles that rise from the road during the first drops of a rain. It would be wise to slow down and keep a safe distance between vehicles that are ahead of you. Here are a few tips to keep safe while driving in wet weather, pass it on!
- Make sure you can see and be seen
- Change old wipers if they are leaving streaks across the windshield.
- Make sure your car’s AC works so that you can defrost your car’s interior if needed.
- Ride with your low beam headlights on. High beam lights can blind other drivers.
- Avoid cruise control while driving in wet weather; this can lead to a loss of control.
- Tire tread is important, check tread once a month.
- Insert a quarter upside down in a tire groove; if you can see above Washington’s head you may need new tires.
- To prevent loss of traction reduce your speed, DO NOT slam on breaks, release the accelerator to gain traction.
In bad weather, Florida drivers should be cautious, reduce speed, and avoid slamming on the brakes to prevent accidents.
